Evil Geniuses
GRAPHIC DESIGN / WEB DESIGN / BRANDING
Founded in 1999, Evil Geniuses is the premier North American esports organization. As the design intern, I'm involved in all aspects of design including graphic, web, and even dabbling in motion, apparel, and emote design. Overall, my goal is to represent the brand, and our players, in a visually appealing and authentic manner.
Graphic Design
Listed below are some graphics and thumbnails I'm most proud of. I regularly had to switch gears between the organization's brands, such as Genius League (our internship program), pride branding, and our most recent villain era brand.
Villain Era/Evil Geniuses
These graphics were made with the Villain Era and Evil Geniuses brand in mind. They were mainly distributed on X (Twitter) where the organization has the strongest following.
YouTube Thumbnails
These are some thumbnails I made to be used on the Evil Geniuses VALORANT YouTube channel.
Genius League
These are some graphics I created using the Genius League sub-brand. These are typically made for when we host events or collaborate with universities.
2024 Evil Geniuses Media Kit
Due to the broad nature of my role, I'm often tasked with designing assets and items that may be unconventional. The 2024 Evil Geniuses Media Kit is one of these items. This media kit is distributed to press outlets and holds branding information as well. View the full media kit here.
Web Design
As part of Evil Geniuses's 25th anniversary campaign, I was tasked with designing and implementing an interactive timeline on Webflow. The full webpage can be viewed here.
Takeaways
Be a Servant to Design
I've always considered myself a servant to design. That is, I leave my ego at the door whenever I design. Receiving and giving critiques as a designer at Evil Geniuses has reminded me how important being a servant to design is.
Design is Design
I used to believe that specializing in one area of design is the way to go. Working in such a lean and agile team has shown me that there are downsides and upsides to specialization. I'm taking challenges in strides and learning a lot along the way.
Everyone Has Different Needs
Everyone in the organization has different needs and requests different graphics. I've learned to adapt to different communication styles and how to cater to each individual.
